Ahead of the annual IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin next week, major device makers are all trying to create hype around the new products they are expected to unveil.
Japan’s Sony Corp. this week posted on its official YouTube channel a teaser videoshowing what appears to be its next flagship smartphone. Several technology blog sites have reported that the new Sony phone, codenamed Honami, is expected to come with a 20-megapixel camera using Sony’s own image sensor. The 29-second teaser gives some clues about the phone’s waterproof body and upgraded camera.
Sony is expected to unveiled the new smartphone at its Sept. 4 event in Berlin, just before the IFA opening.
Samsung Electronics Co.005930.SE +1.03%, meanwhile, is holding its own event also on Sept. 4, where it plans to launch a new Galaxy Note smartphone and a smartwatch called the Galaxy Gear, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month.
Many gadget fans are waiting to find out how Samsung’s smartwatch will be different from other existing smartwatches. In June, Sony unveiled an upgraded version of its SmartWatch, a wristwatch-like device that connects with most smartphones that run onGoogle Inc.GOOG -1.00%’s Android operating system
