Google has opened something called Helpouts, which is a video tutorial system online for people with issues.
Not those sorts of issues, but rather questions about things like how you retouch a photo, do yoga or put on makeup.
"Helpouts is a new way to get and give personalised help over live
video. Our goal is simple: help people help each other," said Google in a
blurb under its introductory Youtube video.
"We want to enable everyone, no matter where they are or what time it is, to easily connect with someone who can help."
The video shows the Helpouts system in action, and gives us an
introduction into a world where people get to interact with other
people, without being in the same room as them.
We see someone sorting out a borked photo, working on a yoga pose,
and playing a guitar. It all looks very convivial, and despite webcams
and the internet being used it looks quite civilised.
In a blog post Google said that this is just the beginning of its
Helpouts, and added that more skilled people, and more recognisable
companies are due to come online. For now it already has some firms
lined up on its roster.
"With Helpouts, you can choose who you get help from based on their
qualifications, their availability, their price, their ratings and
reviews. You can connect instantly or book in advance. You can get help
from individuals or from brands you already know and trust, like
Sephora, One Medical, Weight Watchers, Redbeacon and Rosetta Stone," it
said.
"Once you're in a Helpout, you can do more than just talk - you can
share your computer screen, collaboratively edit a presentation, or
record your Helpout. And if the experience doesn't meet your
expectations, we offer a full money back guarantee." ยต
