While Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to put a red Mac Pro, created by senior vice president of design, Jony Ive, and designer Marc Newson, up for auction on Nov. 23 in New York for (RED), the charity fronted by U2's Bono, a designer has tried to imagine how the device would look like in a gold-colored option.
Martin Hajek, who earlier has produced renderings of many Apple devices, including the iPad mini 2 in gold and blue, the iWatch running Apple Maps and other iWatch concept designs, has taken inspiration from the red Mac Pro to produce a set of stunning renderings of a golden version of the new Mac Pro.
“Jony Ive can do a red MacPro. But when I first showed this gold Mac Pro rendering to my girlfriend her first reaction was: I want it,” Hajek wrote on his blog. “Maybe I should have rendered it with diamonds?”
“The new Mac Pro is our vision for the future of the pro desktop, everything about it has been reimagined and there has never been anything like it,” Philip Schiller, the company’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement last week.
The basic model of the Mac Pro features Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) 3.7GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 12GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory, dual AMD FirePro D300 graphics with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM each and 256GB of PCIe-based flash storage.
And a more powerful version -- priced at $3,999 -- sports a 3.5GHz six-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 16GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory, dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM each and 256GB PCIe-based flash storage.
According to Apple, the new Mac Pro is designed around a unified thermal core, which allows the system to efficiently share thermal capacity across all the processors. The system includes what the company claims is “an innovative fan” that draws in air efficiently to make the product as quiet as a Mac mini. The device is also claimed to be able “to tackle even the most demanding workflows.”
