With the Initial Public Offering expected to take place as early as January 2014, its former general counsel Alex MacGillivray has stepped down.
In a move that has shocked the social media world, Mr MacGillivray has cleared the path for co-worker, Vijaya Gadde.
One of the fiercest defenders of user privacy in cyberspace, Mr MacGillivray is an expert in intellectual property. Ms Gadde, who joined San Francisco-based Twitter from technology giant Juniper Networks in 2011, is experienced in corporate and securities law.
The switch happened as management of the social networking site chews over which investment bank to appoint to handle the bumper listing.
Dick Costolo, Twitter’s chief executive, has discussed his intentions in several rounds of conversations with would-be advisors. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan have all been named as potential suitors.
