The biggest frustration with smartphone (and tablet) gaming is the need to cover parts of the touchscreen display in order to control the action. Touchscreen controls are also rather limited, so a range of alternative controller add-ons have appeared. Logitech has decided to join in by releasing its own take on an iPhone game controller accessory called the PowerShell.
Images of the Logitech PowerShell actually leaked back in October, but at the time it didn’t have a name. It turns out those leaked images were real, but what they didn’t show was that Logitech has also integrated a battery with the controller. So, as well as getting 4 face buttons, 2 shoulder buttons, and a D-pad, there’s a 1500mAh battery that will keep your iPhone’s battery topped up while inserted into the PowerShell.
The PowerShell is compatible with the iPhone 5 and 5S variants, as well as the 5th generation iPod touch, and uses the Lightning port to connect to Apple’s devices. The design allows the volume, ring/silent switch, and power/sleep buttons to remain accessible, and an included adapter lets you plug in headphones. You can also leave your iPhone in the PowerShell and charge both at once, which is a welcome feature.
