True to their word once again, Google has pushed their monthly update
to Glass, the company’s wearable technology platform. The XE11 update
includes some much needed Google product integration and a fresh new
initial setup for the huge wave of new users they just started shipping
units to.
Glass may be a Google product, but it has felt detached from most of
Google’s services for a little while now. You could navigate using
Google Nav, but you couldn’t use any of the preset locations you put in
Google Maps. You could see things you put in Google calendar as long as
they got picked up by Google Now, but nothing else was available to you.
Sometimes this gets fixed with third party services, like Evernote for
taking notes and syncing to your phone. Google’s latest update solves a
lot of this, with deeper integration with Android and Google services.
The first thing you’ll notice on your Android phone when you expand
your notifications now is a quick launch for screen sharing Glass to
your phone. This is especially useful now that you can control Google Glass
from the screen share feature, making it much easier to share the Glass
experience with others. Google search and Google navigation both got
feature bumps as well.
Asking for your agenda will get you a quick look at your next five
calendar events, or asking “what am I doing ” to look quickly at a list
of items. Google maps locations are recognized in the navigation
requests as well. You can ask to navigate to “Home” or “Work” and
whatever your saved options are will fill in as the address.
