Facebook is extending its five-star rating system for Pages from mobile to desktop.
The option, currently available via the Facebook mobile apps, allows users to rate and comment on businesses that have a Page on the social-networking site. The Yelp-like system goes beyond a simple "like," allowing for more in-depth raves or complaints.
For those who would rather type up a review on their PC rather than tap it out from a smartphone or tablet, though, star ratings are now extending to the Web.
"We're extending star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop — to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them," a Facebook spokeswoman said. "This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers. Star ratings encourage more people to rate a business, making it eligible to appear in the News Feed and help others discover a business they didn't know about previously. For businesses themselves, this also leads to greater brand awareness."
The ratings system first launched in early 2012, alongside the introduction of Nearby on the Facebook mobile app.
