Battery life on the iPhone 5 is pretty good when you compare it to other high-end devices with LTE connectivity, so if you’re having to charge yours more than normal, then you may need a new battery. But don’t worry — battery replacements are relatively cheap, and they’re so easy, you can probably do them yourself.
Teardown specialists iFixit show you how in a new five-minute walkthrough video.
As you’ll see from the walkthrough, replacing the battery inside your iPhone 5 is simple. You need to remove just two screws from the bottom of your device, a couple inside it to disconnect the display, and then the battery itself. It takes just a few minutes, and a replacement battery will cost you less than $10 on eBay.
Remember, though, that faulty batteries are covered by your iPhone’s warranty, so if yours isn’t holding a charge, Apple will deal with the problem for free. If for any reason you don’t want to go through Apple, however — you don’t want to remove your jailbreak, for example — then doing it yourself is a great alternative.
You will need a few tools, which iFixit covers in the video below, plus about 10 minutes of spare time.
