Most of us have grown accustomed to Samsung offering smartphones and tablets in every conceivable screen size under the sun, but its Korean electronics compatriot is getting into that game too. Over in Berlin at IFA, LG is showcasing the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet. This is the first 8-inch tablet to offer a full HD display, boasting a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. To put that in perspective, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is 1280×800.
That’s not to say it’s the smallest tablet with a full HD display, of course, as we’re seeing 1080p (or 1200p) on the 7-inch Nexus 7, as well as on several 5-inch smartphones. Even so, you can probably surmise that the high resolution display on the G Pad 8.3 is impressively crisp and vibrant. Running through the features, you’ll find a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 5MP camera, 1.3MP front cam, and a 4600mAh battery.
Strictly speaking, the 8.3-inch LG G Pad 8.3 can be a one-handed affair, but smaller hands will find that it will be quite a stretch to do that. What’s neat is that you can pair this tablet with your smartphone using the QPair app. That way, calls and messages automatically get sent over to the tablet too. This way, you’re not constantly switching devices. You don’t need an LG smartphone, but you do need Jelly Bean.
LG didn’t go as crazy with the design of the G Pad 8.3 as they did with the relocation of buttons on the G2, so it’ll be interesting to see how well it competes against the countless other “smaller” Android tablets in the marketplace, let alone devices like the iPad mini.
