Microsoft has slashed the price of its Surface Pro Windows 8 tablet by $100 in the US, but is yet to offer the same discount in the UK market.
The discount on the Surface Pro appeared on Microsoft's US online store at the weekend, offering punters the 64GB model without keyboard for $799, or £520, instead of $899, or £585, a discount of £65 if they buy the tablet between 4 August and 29 August.
The 128GB model has also seen a $100 price drop on Microsoft's US online store, costing $899, or £585 instead of $999, or £650, also a £65 discount.
Although the same offer applies to Microsoft's online stores in Canada, Hong Kong and Taiwan, the price of the Surface Pro in the UK still remains at £799.
When we asked Microsoft if the discount slate will arrive in the UK any time soon, it failed to give us a direct answer, but hinted that it will be offering more affordable prices.
"We've been seeing great worldwide success with Surface RT pricing and keyboard-cover promotions over the past several months and are proud to offer Surface Pro at more affordable prices starting today," a spokesperson said.
"People who buy Surface love Surface, and we're eager for more people to get their hands on Surface and share their excitement."
Microsoft cut the prices on its Surface Pro tablets less than a month after the Redmond firm slashed price of the Surface RT by 30 percent. However, that price reduction made its way to the UK, with the 32GB Surface RT tablet now priced from £279 instead of £399, so we assume that the same will happen with the Surface Pro, too.
The price reductions across the firm's Surface tablets range might be intended to make way for refreshed Surface tablet models.
Rumoured to be called the Surface RT 2, Microsoft's upcoming tablet update supposedly will also support LTE 4G connectivity as Microsoft looks to add mobile internet capability to its not so popular tablet lineup.
Alternatively, Microsoft's Surface tablet price cuts might be its response to the fact that it hasn't been able to sell many of them. It took a $900m charge related to the Surface tablets line in its most recent financial results. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will be able to sell Surface tablets at discount prices.
