Android

Ubuntu Touch
The new feature – a developer preview – will let developers quickly move between Google’s perennial Android mobile OS and Canonical’s fledgling Ubuntu mobile OS. Canonical say that the dual boot mode should work with a number of Android flavours – including stock releases and CyanogenMod – for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and up.
The new feature comes with an app for both platforms that will let you install and reboot into Ubuntu Touch from Android and reboot back into Android from Ubuntu Touch whenever you wish.
So for developers who aren’t willing to or can’t make Ubuntu Touch their daily driver, this new feature puts Canonical’s mobile OS just one click away.
Canonical, of course, caution that this should only be used by developers“comfortable with flashing devices and with their partition layout.” The dual boot feature will overwrite your Android recovery partition, so exercise caution if you’re a developer wanting to give this a shot.
The requirements include:
  • A Nexus 4 phone (other Nexus devices may work, but haven’t been tested)
  • Android 4.2 or higher with a stock, AOSP, or CyanogenMod-based release
  • 2.7GB of free storage on the device
  • Android’s adb tools installed on your PC
  • Bootloader unlocked
  • USB debugging enabled
Once you’ve satisfied the requirements, you can follow the steps provided in the Ubuntu Wiki below for setting up dual boot on your Nexus device. // Ubuntu Developer

 free access Facebook
Look, we understand: You absolutely have to know what Jimmy ate for lunch. And that Marissa is, "Ugh, just so sick of this week already." And Jason's only a "maybe" to the office holiday party? Who does that guy even think he is?

Dont Miss
Sorry, sorry -- we nearly forgot to tell you that T-Mobile's prepaid brand, GoSmart Mobile, has joined forces with Facebook to offer unfettered access to The Social Network™. Even if you don't pay for data, GoSmart Mobile will still allow Facebook and Facebook Messenger access. You'll never miss another link to "28 signs you've lived in New York City too long" again!

Don't Miss
Whether the Facebook access will be speedy is another question altogether; it's not actually clear which network users will access it through, and GoSmart is a prepaid service aimed at bringing down mobile costs over offering blazing fast speeds. Either way, free is free, right?

 iPhone
Apple announced Monday it has struck a multiyear agreement with China Mobile that makes the iPhone available on the world's largest mobile network. The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will both go on sale at China Mobile's retail shops, as well as Apple's own stores, beginning Jan. 17. Customers will be able to preorder the devices beginning Dec. 25, but pricing wasn't immediately revealed.

Don't Miss :

To date, the iPhone hasn't fared as well in China as have Google's Android devices. One reason is its lack of availability with China Mobile. The network operator boasts 700 million customers -- or about seven times as many as AT&T or Verizon Wireless in the US. China Unicom and China Telecom both sell the iPhone, but have far fewer customers than China Mobile.
One of the factors at play is the underlying technology. China Mobile uses TD-SCDMA, which is a China-developed 3G mobile technology. China Unicom and China Telecom use the same WCDMA networks that are prevalent around the world. China Mobile's TD-SCDMA technology is not widely supported outside of China. Apple is building a version of the iPhone to work with China Mobile's networking technology.

Don't Miss :

China Mobile is just getting its 4G network off the ground, and the iPhone 5s and 5c will support that, too. China Mobile says that its TD-LTE 4G network is available in 16 cities already, and it will expand to 340 cities by the end of 2014. Launching with support for China Mobile's new 4G network might convince a lot of customers who have older 3G devices to jump to the iPhone. //Informationweek

porn-serving engine
A few months ago, PornMD — another porn-serving engine — published its regional search statistics, revealing interesting data regarding what kind of porn different areas of the world are into. Recently, we also discovered that around 20% of the entire porn business is accounted for by camgirls and boys — and whatever else ends up on cam — alone. Now that 2013 is coming to a close, Pornhub — a site you have probably never loaded in a browser (right?) — is here to tell us how it all went down.
During 2013, Pornhub was visited nearly 15 billion times, which would certainly make for a ton of ad impressions should advertisers change their tune about pornography. That’s about 1.7 million visits per hour. In the month-by-month breakdown, Pornhub reveals that when it’s cold outside, users look to warm themselves up the best way they know how — with January, September, and November being the highest trafficked months across the world. Interestingly, however, Mexico chooses to visit the most during March. The least busiest month worldwide is during August, likely because we aren’t avoiding poor weather and trying to figure out what to do with ourselves cooped up inside.
Pornhub's most visited days
Along with winter months, Pornhub is most visited at the beginning of the work week, with Monday as the most highly trafficked day for visits. Perhaps people just can’t bear yet another week of work ahead of them, and they look to alleviate that frustration. The least visited days are the weekend; likely Saturday because we’re generally out doing stuff, and likely Sunday because we not only have to get to bed early to catch up on sleep for the following day of work, but because that’s the day TV is usually at its best.
Like PornMD’s keyword data, Pornhub also found that countries of the world tend to search for porn related to its major nationality; for example, many of Japan’s top search results include the word “Japanese,” while England’s top keyword is “British.” What the world can agree on, though, are the keywords “teen” and “milf,” showing that age plays an important role in attraction, but it can be on either end of the spectrum.
Pornhub’s year in review has many more interesting statistics, including how sporting and television events affect the world’s porn-viewing habits, how holidays take people out of the porn mood, and what specific videos the world watches. If you’re into learning about porn instead of watching it — or are completely exhausted from all the porn you just watched — it’s a good read. // geek.com

Knowing that a jailbreak for iOS 7 was coming eventually, especially after talking to Saurik about it not all that long ago during an interview, sure didn’t make the wait seem any less eternal. While Apple’s latest update to iOS added a lot of things that jailbreakers typically install once they are allowed to, there will likely never be time when it will be totally unnecessary to jailbreak for some people. Fortunately, and seemingly out of nowhere, the evasi0n team came through and delivered an update to their very simple tool for freeing your iDevice.
If you are running any current version of iOS 7, you’ll be able to take advantage of this tool. All you need to do is plug in, to your computer, disable your lock screen, run the program, and when all is said and done you’ll be jailbroken. Unfortunately the evasi0n team didn’t see fit to work with Saurik to include an updated version of Cydia or MobileSubstrate, but a quick glance at his twitter feed shows that the wait won’t be terribly long for those things.

Evasi0n Jailbreak for iOS7

This jailbreak from evasi0n includes something new for Chinese markets. Instead of Cydia, these users will have access to the all Chinese TaiG store. It is designed to offer services and apps that are more relevant in those parts of the world, much in the same way the CyanogenMod team intends to do soon with Tencent in the future. Some early poking around in this new store revealed some pirated apps, but the evasi0n team wrote a separate post explaining to everyone their plans for dealing with those apps moving forward.
If you’re all set to joilbreak, all of the tools are there for you to jump in and enjoy. If you’re more interested in waiting for Cydia to be updated and bugfixed, keep an eye on Saurik’s twitter account for more details.

Wii U
Nintendo’s most recent attempt at a game console didn’t exactly send people rushing into stores to buy one. From the moment it was announced, the Wii U sent a confusing message to consumers. Now that it has been out for over a year, it might be time to consider adding one to your home entertainment center.
There’s no nice way to say it — Nintendo completely botched the Wii U launch. The announcement didn’t even make it clear that this was a new console, a lot of the games included at launch were gimmicky, and it wasn’t until months after the launch that they even got the underlying operating system where they wanted it to be during the US press announcement.
Fast forward to today and there’s not only a lot of great reasons to own a Wii U, but there are even more on the way. While it may be convenient to look at the current console climate and claim that it’s too late for the Wii U, consider for a moment what the next few months in the console world are actually going to look like.
Microsoft and Sony are going to spend the next six months fighting for meaningless limited time game exclusives while gamers move to the Xbox One and PS4. The launch list for both consoles was unimpressive, and it’ll be a while before games companies are really ready to put out games that actually challenge the hardware in these consoles.
Social networks for Sony and Microsoft will both be in a strange limbo for a while as users and their friends update to the latest console, and streaming services will be added slowly. Is it worth it to spend $400 or $500 on one of these consoles yet? If you’re not sure, it may be time to consider a Wii U.
Nintendo finally has its act together on the Wii U. The Miiverse social network is incredibly active, the Wii U Shop is filled with lots of interesting content, and there’s no shortage of streaming services available for the console. The Wii U Gamepad perfectly embodies a lot of the features Sony and Microsoft are trying to bolt onto their consoles right now, with a full web browser and WiiTV remote accessible from the unique controller. Plus, being able to play entire games on just the Gamepad is still incredibly cool, whether it’s you or a child playing while something else is watching TV.

Unfortunately, the Wii U is at a tipping point right now. It is either going to continue being a great console, or it is going to run out of gas in about six months. Several major third party game publishers have announced that they don’t plan to make the Wii U a priority since it is not as powerful or as popular as Sony or Microsoft’s consoles, and Nintendo can’t keep the Wii U alive just using their own IP. Seriously, I mean look at this Zelda mashup with Dynasty Warriors. It’s basically the stuff of nightmares.
The last two months have given these publishers more than a few reasons to change their minds, and the games on Nintendo’s roadmap for the next few months should only serve to be an even greater example of why the Wii U is a great console, but if these publishers continue to look elsewhere it could be disastrous for the platform.
So, should you spend the money? Absolutely. The Wii U is an incredible console, and it is only going to get better over the next couple of months. It’s less expensive than the Xbox One or the PS4, and it’s just plain fun to use. The multiplayer titles for the console are a blast, the streaming services work great, and once you have used it for a day or two the Gamepad becomes surprisingly comfortable.

Mark Zuckerberg speaks during an onstage interview with James Bennet of the Atlantic Magazine
Facebook Inc founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will sell 41.4 million shares worth about $2.3 billion to pay a tax bill, as part of an offering by the social network of 70 million Class A common shares.
Facebook shares, which have doubled in value this year, were down 4 percent at $53.54 before the bell.

Zuckerberg's sale will reduce his voting power to 56.1 percent from 58.8 percent, the company said in a filing on Thursday.
Facebook said it expects Zuckerberg to use most of the net proceeds from the sale to satisfy taxes related to the exercise of an option to buy 60 million Class B shares.

Each Class A share is entitled to one vote, while Class B shares are entitled to 10 votes and are convertible at any time into one Class A share.
Board member Marc Andreessen will also sell 1.65 million Class A shares, while Facebook will sell 27 million.
J.P. Morgan, BofA Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Barclays are joint bookrunners for the offering.
