Excitement has ramped up for Apple's rumored Sept. 10 iPhone event, but Cupertino is not the only tech giant that plans to unveil a new gadget this fall.
Samsung's Sept. 4 event at the IFA trade show in Berlin will reportedly include the launch of the company's smartwatch, according to Bloomberg.
Back in March, amid rumors that Apple had a smartwatch-like device in the works, Samsung's executive vice president, Younghee Lee, revealedthat the company was working on its own smartwatch. Then, earlier this month, a patent application was uncovered that offered more details on Samsung's wearable computing device.
A source told Bloomberg that the smartwatch device will be unveiled on Sept. 4 ahead of IFA and will be called the Galaxy Gear. It reportedly includes the ability to process emails, access the Web, and make phone calls. Bloomberg's source indicated that the Galaxy Gear will not have a flexible display in the first iteration of the product.

One of the first mentions of a possible Sept. 4 release date for Samsung's smartwatch came from Korean site AsiaE earlier this month.
While there have been a number of reports that Apple is indeed working on a smartwatch, there is no indication that the company will release the device next month alongside a new iPhone; (Apple is pretty good at keeping secrets, though, so never say never).
Samsung's event, meanwhile, is also expected to include the unveiling of the Galaxy Note III, a device that is said to be a combination smartphone and tablet device.
At last year's IFA, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note II, the Galaxy Camera, and its Ativ lineup of Windows-based tablet/laptop hybrids, as well as a Windows Phone device.
