In two days time, Motorola Mobility, will launch the much anticipated
and speculated Moto X. The event in likely to be quiet a show as the
real driving force behind the Motorola brand is of course, Google Inc.
What do we already know? Well, it is as ever, more what we think we
know rather than any hard and fast facts. Motorola has not themselves
given much a way. We do know from the company that the new Motorola will
be made in America.
Could it be that the rise in production costs for manufacturing in
countries such as China has increased so much, that it is now cheaper to
manufacturer in America? It is certainly true that production costs
have risen sufficiently in China and if you combine this with the
current preference of the buying public to buy ‘American’, it could make
sense.
It has been reported that the Moto X will be priced exactly in line
with the Nexus 7, also from Google. Selling the Moto X at the same price
as the Nexus 7 will undoubtably squeeze the profits on the device and
it is likely that it will be priced higher to offset any increased
production costs and leverage a higher price with the ‘Made in America’
stamp on the back.
The Moto X is also expected to be available to purchase as soon as it
is revealed to the public in New York on August 1st. This would follow
the current policy of Google having products available as soon as they
are released, as Google showed in the recent release of the Chromecast
HDMI dongle for streaming and catch up tv.
